WAYNE, Mich. - The Bronco is officially back.

The highly anticipated new Ford Bronco started rolling off the assembly line and shipping to dealers for the first time in 25 years on Monday, marking the end of a long, grueling wait for Bronco fans all over.

Mick Gibbs, a Michigan Assembly team member in Final said he’s “excited” to see the SUV return.

The Bronco was initially produced at the Michigan Truck Plant (now Michigan Assembly Plant or MAP) beginning in 1965. After years of production, the last Bronco rolled off the line in 1996. Plans to resurrect the iconic vehicle were announced in 2017. Now, after years of anticipation, the sixth-generation Bronco is here and being shipped to dealers to fill the more than 125,o00 orders from customers who reserved their vehicles last summer.

“I think it’s great for our company,” Gibbs said.

Earlier this week, several prominent media outlets, including Fox Business and the Detroit News visited the plant to shoot footage of the two- and four-door SUVs being built as they moved down the production line. The outlets had a chance to hear the excitement straight from the mouths of several dedicated Michigan Assembly team members, including Robert Fox, a team member in Final who noted its appeal across generations.

Outlets also had a chance to speak with Greg O’Neil, ISA UAW Chairman, Scott Elliot, Final UAW Chairman, and Plant Manager Erik Williams.

To achieve this historic launch the facility underwent a $750 million upgrade and more than 2,700 members were added to the MAP team. The former Wayne Assembly Plant was remodeled into a 1.7 million-square-foot state-of-the-art Modification Center where customers can customize their vehicles with graphics carefully applied by hand, roof racks, and other modifications.

“I’ve always loved the Bronco since I was a kid,” William Housey, a team member on Trim in Final said. “I had a cousin who had a red one that we had a lot of fun riding in. I’ve always wanted one and I plan on getting a new Bronco one day,” he said.

Now, Bronco fans will finally have the chance as the vehicles ship out to Ford dealers across the country. But, for those who didn’t place an order already, the wait will be even longer: to date more than 190,000 reservations have been made.
