MADRID, Spain – Ford’s pioneering BlueCruise hands-free driver assistance system has received a prestigious “Technological Advancement” honour at the El Mundo 2024 Motor Awards in Spain.

Available to purchase on all new Mustang Mach-E models, the Level 2 “hands-off, eyes-on” feature is now also the most widely available system of its kind in Europe, unlocking access

to more than 133,000 kilometres (82,744 miles) of designated highways across Europe, called Blue Zones, across the region.

The deployment of this technology in Spain was a great step forward in the evolution of autonomous driving. This is what experts and specialists from the automotive sector agree on, and that’s why this system has been recognized in the prestigious El Mundo Motor Awards 2024 as the best technological advancement of the year.

El Mundo is one of the leading online newspapers in Spanish around the world. The jury of the awards has highlighted that, although self-driving cars have not arrived as fast as expected years ago, systems like BlueCruise represent a real change in road safety. Because 90 per cent of accidents are due to human error, assistance from these technologies is key to reducing road risk.

Beyond comfort, BlueCruise also has a direct impact on driver fatigue, which according to several studies, is responsible for one in five road accidents, as it affects the ability to react and increases the risk of distractions. Thanks to this technology, mental effort is reduced, which contributes to a safer and less stressful driving.
