WARSAW, Poland – A fleet of more than 100 Ford Pro commercial vehicles has just joined a Border Patrol task force in Poland and will be used to transport detainees.
The specially converted vehicles – 49 Transits and 60 Transit Customs - will strengthen the security of the internal borders of the EU by increasing the mobility of the Border Guard units in response to emergency situations.
The Transit vans have been divided into three secure zones to transport up to four detainees, two escorts, as well as the driver and convoy commander.
Inside, the detainee compartment is equipped two double seats equipped with safety belts, and the interiors have been constructed of damage-resistant composite. The modifications also include bars separating the detainee compartment from the escort area. The two compartments are connected by a deposit window and a door with a grille.
The Transit Custom models have been modified to accommodate two detainees, and like the Transits their interiors are also constructed from a special composite material.
Both the Transits and Transit Customs carry “Border Guard” signage and are equipped with an LED roof bar.
