COLOGNE, Germany – Did you know that the Puma Gen-E is available in a choice of six stunning colours, including one that has been specially designed and created for this all-electric crossover?
It’s called Electric Yellow, it’s completely new for Ford and is guaranteed to make Puma Gen-E stand out from the crowd. It also took more than two years to formulate, refine and finalise.
Tilman Weickert is Ford’s Lead Exterior Colour Designer. He told @Ford: “We wanted to create a head turner when we launched Puma Gen-E and colour plays a pivotal role to deliver that wow momentum, hard to take your eyes off. Getting closer to the car, the customer will experience an intriguing Tri-Coat Pearl effect that shimmers in various white pastel facets and gently strengthens the beautiful sculptural design of the Puma Gen-E.
“In the very beginning we did a detailed colour trend and customer target analysis and decided to create an electrifying vibrant yellow. Yellows play an important role to transport positivity by representing hopefulness and optimism. It’s about being bold and not blending in. Before we physically mixed the paint, we started using the latest 3D Design tools to render the car in our preferred colour choice, optimising it on the shape to get a first fully immersive experience.”
Tilman adds: “Solid Yellows are not easy to achieve in OEM production and have often failed or mildened, but we in Ford took it even further by making it a premium Tri-Coat Yellow, utilising Ford’s state-of-the-art 3WET paint technology in our Craiova Assembly plant. We literally spent months refining the colour position, adjusting the effect, as we composed the exterior paint until we felt it was strong enough to represent the launch colour of the Puma Gen-E.
“Technically, together with our VOM Paint Engineering and Industry partners we’ve really pushed the edge of the envelope with Electric Yellow, but it was all worth it.”
In addition to Electric Yellow, Puma Gen-E customers can also choose from these existing popular colours - Frozen White, Agate Black, Solar Silver, Fantastic Red, and Digital Aqua Blue.
“From a design perspective, the most important consideration when choosing paint is to make sure it gets people engaged with the product,” Tilman says. “The colours we offer for Puma Gen-E do just that.”
