The all-new 2025 Ford Expedition is completely redesigned and reimagined to satisfy the unmet needs of customers.

The all-new 2025 Ford Expedition is a complete reimagining of the longtime family favorite. The redesigned SUV includes technology and features intended to redefine what it means to travel together. Ford employees, who were the first to experience the new model, are raving about its family-friendly features and innovative design.

The all-new Expedition was redesigned around three themes: Linger Longer, Better Together, and One-Car Wonder. Expedition Chief Program Engineer Adrian Aguirre said specific design elements, both physical and software elements, deliver that capability. He said employees, 75 of whom attended an exclusive briefing session in Detroit to learn about the SUV from the team members who helped develop it, were impressed with the SUV’s interior design, which is less “truck-like” than in previous generations, as well as the new Expedition TREMOR, the most off-road-capable Expedition to date.

“We’re getting a lot of positive feedback on our TREMOR series,” he said. “It’s an incredibly capable version of Expedition. It’s taking the capabilities up a level, and we see a lot of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ as soon as they get inside.”

For the family

Families were one of the key groups Ford researched when developing the all-new Expedition. Updates to charging points and an available new Digital Device Holder mounted to the back of the first-row headrests could push the scales in Expedition’s favor when it comes time to purchasing a new vehicle, according to Jennifer Laz, a design and release engineer in Steering. The SUV’s flexible third row, which makes it even easier to carry gear and people, is also a must-have.

“My kids are going to like the screens on the backs of the seats and that they have the charging points right there and accessible for all of them,” she said. “And my son usually gets the third row next to all the skis on the Up North trips, so he is going to be happy that it’s all in there. And then there’s a tie-down over the center console to keep everything in place so it’s not falling over on him.”

For Laz herself, the 24-inch panoramic screen integrated into the new Ford Digital Experience was a highlight. The display replaces a traditional gauge cluster, and it is positioned near the lower edge of the windshield, which helps keep drivers looking at the road ahead.

I like that the screen is right in front of the driver, and how they moved the navigation and some of the things that you’re looking at in front of the driver rather than trying to look to the side and the middle.

Laz also appreciated features that emphasize family time, such as the new Ford Split Gate (three-quarters of Expedition’s rear gate raises like a traditional liftgate while the lower quarter folds down like a traditional pickup truck tailgate) and available Cargo Tailgate Manager, which transforms Expedition’s tailgate into a serving table.

Thoughtful innovation

John Dryden, a design and release engineer in exterior trim, enjoys seeing the finished products that he has worked on during the development stage. He liked hearing from Expedition team members about the updates that were made to the SUV, as well as the reasoning behind them. He was particularly interested in the Flex Powered Console, a sliding front console that adds new storage access for the front seats and second row.

“My wife told me that one thing that automakers don’t think about is women with big bags,” he said.

When I pushed that button, I thought, ‘wow, my wife would love that.’ [The Flex Powered Console is] a thoughtful application that they added. I think Ford did a lot right with this vehicle.

Dryden said consumers are going to be excited when they start seeing the all-new Expedition in showrooms.

“If everybody gets to look at these vehicles and the features that they’ve got in them, I think that they’d be impressed,” he said. “I think they’d like all the passenger space and cargo capacity and the Zone Lighting that goes around the perimeter of the vehicle.”

‘Futuristic’ features

Varun Rufus, a feature apps and validation engineer, checked software for several features on the all-new Expedition, such as BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free highway driving technology, which is available on nearly 90% of the Expedition lineup, for almost two years. Another “futuristic” feature Rufus worked on was available Open-on-Approach, a feature that automatically opens the Ford Split Gate when the key fob is present near the back of the vehicle for a few seconds. The technology also includes a safeguard that prevents it from opening into surrounding walls or ceilings.

“It’s a really great feature when you have too many things in your hands or if you back in, even in a garage space, it still opens up perfectly fine without hitting the sidewalls,” he said. “That’s another really great feature that every customer could appreciate.”

How to get one

The all-new 2025 Ford Expedition is assembled at Ford’s Kentucky Assembly Plant. It is available in Platinum, King Ranch, TREMOR, and Active trim series. Ordering begins Oct. 24, and it will be on dealer lots next spring.
