Electric Racing Goes to the Wire at Greenpower International 2024

DUNTON, UK – Goodwood Motor Circuit hosted the Greenpower International Final 2024 at the weekend as over 80 teams from around the world got down to some serious electrified racing.

Greenpower is a charity which gets young people enthusiastic about science and engineering by challenging them to design, build and race an electric car.  As a UK national partner for almost 20 years, Ford has a strong branded presence front and centre at all Greenpower events. Every race car has Ford branding, and the trophies and awards are also handed out by Ford.

Naheed Akhtar-Saddique, the Ford Greenpower Partnership Lead said: “Witnessing the young talent, dedication, and passion of all the teams at Goodwood was truly inspirational. Greenpower has been running for 25 years, and in any year has over 300 teams taking part around 11,000 students. There are three categories: Goblins for students of 9-11 years, F24 for 11-16 years and F24+ for 16-25 years.

“It really was humbling to see the teams in action, the excitement, drama, elation, heartache, content creation, and STEM. Reaching the final is the culmination of a whole school academic year of planning, designing, testing, over and over, then racing.”

Ford’s Dunton Campus this week hosted one of the top teams from the Greenpower Challenge. The aim was to showcase a masterclass of student design, build, test, race and repeat across numerous mechanical and electrical disciplines.

St Pauls School from London brought along their cutting-edge Team Firefly F24 car, while team members were treated to a site tour, visiting the Electrical, Propulsion and Certification labs to connect the dots to the automotive world.

Naheed added: “During April 2024, Jim Farley met with Greenpower and spoke about need to bridge skills gaps and focus students on the mechanical/electrical skillsets we need. This week’s electrical lab tour was a chance for the St Pauls team to see more complex tech such as Yellow Boards and Hardware In Loop Rigs.”
