The United Nations General Assembly established January 24th as International Education Day in order to contribute to the organization’s Sustainable Development Goals. This year it will be celebrated under the theme "to invest in people, prioritize education." The Ford of Mexico Civic Committee and its dealers are committed to contribute in order to support and set quality education standards through its "Education in motion" program. In the program’s 57-year run, it has successfully established 193 schools in the country, and still has a long way to go. For this reason, we proudly share the story of teacher Imelda Villanueva Méndez, recently recognized by the Ford Civic Committee and its dealers for her contribution to education and the program.
Professor Imelda has been part of Ford School 112 since its foundation 46 years ago in Merida, Yucatan. Her professional experience combined with her passion for teaching led her to be the school's headmaster for 20 years as she actively worked along with parents and teachers alike to provide the best education to her students.
In September 2022, Professor Imelda celebrated her 100th birthday; 52 of those years were actively dedicated to teaching. She recently returned to the facilities where she did the thing she was most passionate about: making sure the future of our society rests in good and well-taught hands. Students welcomed her with a tribute to her long career and while there, Professor Imelda took a moment to dedicate a few words to the new generations of the school. Stories like this make Ford and its collaborators proud because, more than car builders, we are actively involved in keeping the engine of education running.
