Windows rattled as the Nascar Truck Series Ford/ThorSport Racing team rolled into KTP on July 11. The ThorSport team was in town for the Buckle Up in Your Truck 225 race at the Kentucky Speedway on July 12, and stopped by KTP for a plant tour and autograph session with KTP and LAP employees and their families.
The team includes Matt Crafton, Grant Enfinger, Myatt Snider and local boy Ben Rhodes. Ben is a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Louisville and started racing at just seven years old. He generously donated tickets to the Thursday, July 12 race to KTP and LAP employees. KTP offered a package of four tickets for a $10 donation to JDRF and raised $370 dollars.
The drivers and their management teams enjoyed a 90 minute tour of the plant and marveled at the smooth operation and complexity of manufacturing. The ThorSport team all drive F-150 trucks while racing but were very impressed with the Ford Super Duty and Lincoln Navigator they viewed at the end of the tour, especially the massaging seats. One driver suggested that feature for their racing trucks.
After the tour the drivers meet with Plant Manager Andrew Tapp who presented them with some Ford/KTP swag before moving to the Administration building lobby for autographs and pictures. Employees and their families and friends were able to meet the drivers and take a turn around a track in the Ford Racing simulators. Ben Rhodes jumped into a simulator and quickly showed why he is part of the Ford racing team, finishing easily in first place. The Ford Performance team had arranged for two Nascar racing vehicles from the Monster Cup Series, Brad Keselowski’s #2 and Rickey Stenhouses Jr.’s #17, to be onsite for photo opportunities. Starting up the engines, to the delight of the kids, demonstrated the raw power these cars produce and seriously rattled the windows.
The race on Thursday evening was even more special as Louisville’s own Ben Rhodes took first place for ThorSport and Ford racing. Matt Crafton finished third, Grant Enfinger finished sixth and Myatt Snider finished 26th; a great showing for the team!
